Alright, so me and a couple of other guys (you know who you are) have been doing some OoT3D races, mainly on the weekend. I'm thinking we should start making this a weekly thing because, I don't know about you guys but, I like to race. For those interested in racing I highly suggest you come on down to the irc and chill out there: http://client02.chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23oot3d&server=irc.speeddemosarchive.com

If you've never raced before that's fine, someone will show you waht to do and all that stuff. Anyways, what times work for you guys? I think it'd be pretty cool if we did Saturday night Any% NG+ races followed by some boss gauntlet races. Maybe even throw in an MST here and there.

It was like 3:00 or 4:00 AM for me so maybe a late night race for us (12:00 AM) could be an early race for you (7:00 or 8:00 AM)? :P

Dude Im down for racing this game whenever I have the time. Although most of the time I'd like to avoid ng+ races because of the huge non-racing friendly risk.

Although it would be good motivation for me to take that record Nook ;)

Usually afternoon s don't work too well for me depending on what you mean by afternoon. I'm usually good around 8 PM till whenever.

I kind of agree about the whole no NG+ Gamestabled. I mean we should definitely race NG+ but maybe throw in some no NG+ no WW Any%s

Master Sword race tonight around midnight EST! Come join all of the racing fun
***we won't/can't start until SRL is done with maintenance which was said to take around 15-20 minutes, but you never know. We'll probably start around 12:30. The more the merrier!

I feel I should post the rules we agreed on as well.

Timing begins from file select and ends when Master Sword is obtained. Dungeons must be completed in normal order. Must obtain slingshot, bombs, and boomerang. Cannot attack with Deku Sticks. TSC, WW, and NG+ are banned. I think that ZL cs skip should be banned as well, but that's just because I don't know how to do it ;D Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

Re: OoT3D Races

These are terrible rules.Literally the only parts I agree with are the file select and NG+. Just do child dungeons (timing ends on obtaining ocarina of time)

Re: OoT3D Races

I'm in ;D but I still need to work out a route and garbage so I wont be ready for a few races...

and I personally agree with GS on the no NG+ stuff..My favorite would be either MST or Any% no NG+

but I wouldn't mind doing a child run.

stabled, these rules were discussed in the IRC with almost the whole OoT3D team there. the one thing everyone agreed on was doing the dungeons in proper order, so that needs to stay.

Here's a new set of rules: Timing begins from file select and ends upon obtaining Master Sword. Dungeons must be completed in proper order. Must obtain slingshot, bombs, and boomerang. WW and NG+ are banned.

That opens up routing a bit more and doesn't restrict Deku Stick use. I liked the old rules better because it was almost like a glitchless with bombslides allowed, but whatever.

I wager 10 ZSR Bucks that I will come firmly in second place. ;D

I have to agree that restricting attacking with deku stick and no TSC is silly. I like standard dungeon order though and no WW. That really seems like it to me :P All of those other rules just make things far too complicated.

Re: OoT3D Races

That's basically what it is. The fact we're required to get slingshot just ensures no one will get hung up on slingshot skip in DC.

So I guess we're agreed on the rules then? Okay. See you all tonight at 12:30! (ish)

Would WW even save time in (what essentially is) a Child Dungeons run, especially with no NG+ AND fixed dungeon order? Unless I'm missing something, you'd need to get explosives to even be able to wrong warp, and getting FW early would take a ton of backtracking.

Also, playing up to the Master Sword is silly, since you pretty much just sit through more cutscenes.

Most likely WW would not save time. Also we kind of realized that Master Sword races were silly. We'll probably stick with Child dungeon races from now on.

Anyways what kind of races should we do this Saturday? I'm thinking just stick with Any% NG+ :P

Hey I know it's last minute, but who's up for an an% NG+ race tonight? I'm thinking around 10:00 EST would be good, but if that doesn't work for you and you want to race sometime tonight just reply here on the thread or on the IRC :P

Re: OoT3D Races

Would anyone like more race categories? We could do Any% races and Child Dungeon races weekly. Anyone interested?  :D

You know I'm always up for a good race just shoot me PMs when you want to, and if I can I certainly will. I don't think I'd ever race any% though just any% NG+ :P

Re: OoT3D Races

Fuck any% and child dungeons >:(
We need a free category option in SRL with categories such as "beat ganon as child" "get every upgrade" "get hookshot as child" "get every tunic" etc. it would make many interesting runs. I doubt anything like that will ever happen, because it would be a hassle to record them. Well might as well do them somewhere else ??? I dunno. (not only for oot3d of course)
Its kinda like a bingo race with more options, would help learn routing and other unique tricks or methods while running.

Hmm. I can consider it, it would be good to have weekly races though. Maybe we do new categories to spice it up. I like the idea of Ganon as child.  :D That could potentially be a category. Any ideas for other categories at all?

Re: OoT3D Races

I think we should some really interesting categories. Hookshot as child was a good one but there should be others imo. Any ideas?

Re: OoT3D Races

Maybe. I do want there to be a race today  ;) If Morpha as child was easier I would suggest a 7 boss as child category. Defeat normal child bosses, PG, Bongo, Morpha and Ganon.
