Hovering Theory Progress List

With all the possibilities, we need a thread to keep track of the multitude of possibilities. This also serves to indicate what has and has not been tested.

Ganon's Castle early: Many barriers, cannot find a way through
Power bracelets early: You get burned
Hover past electric gate in Hyrule Castle: More invisible barriers
Top of DRI early: Not the same map
Iron Boots early: Doesn't work, unfortunately
Sail skip: Can't open Triforce charts without the Sail
Skip FF1: Hyrule 2 softlocks if you don't do FF1
Iron Boots skip: Two rooms away from the end of the Wind Temple, we reach an IB switch needed to open a barred door
Postman CS skip: It works temporarily, but you can't enter DRC without triggering the cutscene
Fire/Ice Arrows early // Skip balad of gales: Tested and it works...no video yet though
Helmaroc skip: It works, but it wastes more time than it saves and doesn't yet help low% http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FM4fIzjULg
Wind Temple timesaver: Our first timesaver with this trick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7GL4Frs_Vc
Boomerang early: Saves time in a run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMSE0lN9jZc
FW BK early: Works fine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYDG6hWlflI
DRC BK skip: Our first BK skip found...lets hope this game gets the MM treatment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0TW92E8Cww
DRC speedtrick: Combined with the BK skip, DRC is DESTROYED http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no4Sv-2ctXk
Deku Leaf before DRC: Confirmed, and it allows us to skip bottle in low%
Skip losing Makar in Wind Temple: Using a bomb, it can be done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU7jYujSUgM
Wind Temple BK skip: And there goes another one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4PHpPSiK4c
Bombs before DRI: Tested on stream and it works, no video as far as I know
Bottle skip: Bombs don't blow up the rock, but you can hover to the loading zone of DRC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txLuT7FAHGU
Earth Temple BK Skip: That makes 3! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKMOZRiJL-M
Skip Puppet Ganon fight: Possible, but very hard without turbo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XthYgzPf7cA
Deku Leaf skip: Confirmed by Ani
Hyrule 3 early using ToG after beating Wind/Earth temples: Untested (We'd need a way to skip Skull Hammer to get this to work)

Add more theories (at least semi-reasonable ones) in this topic, as well as testing progress.

Ganon's Tower Trails Skip. Hover all the way to the ceiling and see if we can go through and land in the loading zone. Once we're through we mash the button we have elixir soup on. I suggest you have it on X or Y.

I have tried this hover glitch many times, I mash the B button as hell but he touches the ground after a few seconds. How fast do you have to mash? Seriously.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#3
I thought you needed the Tingle Tuner to keep you from dying when you land. Is that true?

I know what you mean Marcus. I can't mash anywhere near fast enough so I gave up almost instantly.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#4
Its definitely doable. Use your bicep instead of your wrist.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#5
It seems that a few people are having trouble with the mashing....

Like Cosmo said you need to tense up your bicep. I vibrate my entire arm, making sure my upper thumb joint is directly over the B button. That method has always worked great for me.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

DRC has been completely destroyed. Working on FW now, we have early boomerang.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#8
So far it's 2 PAL players that have had problem with it...

Is Tingle Tuner even allowed in speed runs?

Jiano tested it on the PAL rom and it works fine

yeah Tingle Tuner is allowed

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

Yeah the problem isn't the PAL version of the game, it's just the PAL players. I'll give aleckermit's method a try.

Also nice finds there. Is that everything that has been found so far? Also Venick are you using a turbo controller?

New FW trick.

FW Boss Key Early:

Edit: Wind Temple Small key early:

^This is probably useless.^

I use it for the convenience it makes the vids go by faster. it also allows for testing better.
In a normal run i would not use a turbo.

For PAL players, turn the game in 50 Hz. It's easier.

I'm using another technique, use your two thumbs or two index or mid fingers alternatively. (Great for drummers) it's easy to do it this way: you have to concentrate on the regularity and not really on the speed.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#13
I'm playing in 50Hz and I sold my Gameboy Advance 3 months ago. :'(

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#14
Thanks for the tip Majora MIM. I can actually do it now with the method Aleckermit said. I'm not sure if I'm in 50 or 60Hz though.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#15
I thought you hold B at the start of the game to choose 50 or 60Hz mode

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

Here is my button mashing method. It's really easy and economic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4Up51IX1dY
(I'll use it until I'll get Cosmo's muslces)

And here is some strange shit I found on Tingle Tuner:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfI7mOqpN5A
When you go outside of the map with the feather and go all the way down (I don't know if it works up), it reappear at the top of the screen and shows another sea map with a strange gap (Forsaken fortress appear on the tower of gods square).
I've been hovering for almost one hour straight from earth island 'til I get out of the map (without a turbo controller :p ) but I didn't reach anything...

Here's an idea... skip the mirror shield battle. Don't know how much time it would save but your health should be really low when entering the battle cause of that poe moblin strat in the previous room. I'll try to make a video.

edit: I can't mash near fast enough to even try this out...

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

There's already a fast mirror shield fight skip from Klyde.

What happen if you go all the way up in the statue room of the ToG without having the pink teleporter?

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

^ I wondered that too Majora MIM. Also, nice mashing method. I've seen it before and tried it with pathetic results. I've been playing a lot of Domination on Mario Party 4 today and I think my mashing speed has gone up though. What speed would a turbo controller mash at? Would it be 60 hits per second since the game runs at 60FPS (afaik)?

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#21

Domination on Mario Party 4
That's 10 seconds of mashing right? What are your scores for that?

I usually hit 110, rarely 120, and to me this hover trick is definitely doable in a speedrun.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

#22
That's doable in a speedrun. I've keep the hover for six minutes without pressing pause and I was still getting height.
I can do 140-150 in ten secondes using my two thubs.

Agreed. I hovered for 5 minutes into Forbidden Woods with only a few pauses to rest, not to mention this was after like more than an hour of attempts with tons of hovering. My bicep is pretty sore today from the mass amount of hovering, but for a segmented run or something hovering would be no problem.

I am uploading my mashing technique for Zombie Hover right now. Check my youtube account for the video soon:

I think it will greatly help those having trouble.

120? Are you serious? Wtf I hit like 90 if I absolutely kill myself. There's no way I could keep that consistency for more than 10 seconds.

Your skill at hovering in wind waker is directly proportional to the number of times you've played mario party as a kid

I never played Mario Party.

If you do EMS Before Nayru's pearl, the game crashes in Jabun's cave.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

itt: every zelda player gets jacked from zombie hovering

anyway I've never really been interested in WW glitching before but with this huge breakthough I thnk it's a good time to start, good job guys.

Re: Hovering Theory Progress List

^I'm determined to get faster at mashing.

As far as using hover in a speedrun goes, what is the fastest way to get your health to 1/4?

EDIT:

I just mashed 12 hits per second 8D

I'm getting between 10-11 hits per second without putting much effort in (so I could mash for a longer amount of time).
