I'm having trouble with the vine clip. I can't get Link to grab back onto the vines after letting go. I'm holding forward, what else is there?

I can't get him to grab back onto vines in any other context either

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

#782
I believe to re-grab a vine you have to hold down after you've let go then snap back up

I am the end of the game but do I need 100 Gold skulltulas? I already ruined any chance of exploiting the glitch do the fact that I already collected the Skulltula and the GCT for 100 Gold Skulltulas code doesn't seem to work.

In any% right after you exit ZR, you do like a forward sidehop or something to get the WESS. Can anyone explain the entire thing?

The forward sidehop is a result of the weird jumps Link can do after a roll. You have to hold down-left very slightly to do a roll to the left and then you sidehop right to go diagonal. Then you just jumpslash right before hitting the water to recoil off the wall, hold right ESS when you hit the water, and then turn very slightly to angle yourself towards Kakariko. This method is really difficult though.

You don't need 100 Gold Skulltulas to beat the game.

I was just curious if it's possible to wrong warp directly to the fight with Ganon instead of tower collapse in any%?
Maybe it's not possible from the deku tree or something?

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

#787
It's not possible to do that in any reasonable amount of time

How do you do the wrong warp set up in cosmo's current WR run. I can't find a video or tutorial on youtube. I seem to be able to get like ~10% of the time.

1. Target the center of the door
2. Backwalk until you go over the top of the ramp
3. Backflip on the 2nd half of the ramp, you have 2 frames
4. Backflip 2 more times, doing OI on the 2nd
5. You should land on the blue warp and see either:
-a tiny portion of Link's hat peering through the glow of the blue light (first backflip frame)
OR
-most of Link's hat peering through the glow of the blue light (second backflip frame)
6. Hold down
7. Once the camera focuses on Link again (but before it pans behind him), press B (still holding down) and throw the nut right after.
-if you throw the nut on the first frame after pressing B, you were too early and Link won't turn
8. Hold Z and right (If you got first backflip frame, also hold shield here)
9. Try to pay attention to Link's feet just before he throws the nut.
-if he turned and threw the nut without moving forward, you got the 1st frame nut
-if he turned and took a step before throwing the nut, you got the 2nd frame nut
10. Link should begin sidewalking after the nut (for first frame backflip, he should also be shielding)
-If Link looks like he curves at the beginning of the sidewalk, you did it right. If he doesn't, you didn't hold right correctly and may hit the wall instead of going into the hallway
11. Let Link accelerate for a couple steps and also release shield if you held it
12. This is the movement to the hallway:
-Sidehop right
-take a couple steps and slash your sword
-take a couple steps and slash your sword again
-make sure you do all this before clearing the ramp in front of the hallway
13. Once across the ramp, the blue warp is no longer loaded, so just sidehop 4 times or so to get to the door quickly
14. Stand in front of the left corner of the door while still holding Z
15. This is where you adjust for your nut frame:
-if you had 1st frame nut, release Z and then press A to open the door
-if you had 2nd frame nut, keep holding Z and open the door

I think there is also a 3rd frame adjustment, if you threw the nut two frames late. For this adjustment, release Z in front of the door and wait until the camera snaps. Then open the door. idk if critical health affects this, but hopefully you don't get this frame anyway.

When I try to do the Gohma clip, I buffer and look for the frame where her eye is big, but it never comes? Any ideas why this happens?
Thanks.

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

I've gotten used to timing the backflip right as Gohma's animation seems to freeze:

Any tips on the Wess outside ZR the angle changing is my problem. Right now Im working on getting consistent since I plan on joining the streaming community once I obtain my sub  24 goal ( bad :/). Even though the fence Wess is easier it takes too much time and if I fail I can't recover.

Also I've been learning the new b1 skips. I either do the walltulla target turn right and sidehop, and I can also break the web doing the backwards sidehop. On the method where I target I hold down to change my angle when web is broke, and down left with the backside hop method.

The only problem I have is I'm not sure if the jumpslash frame is the same for both methods/ and or if my angle is incorrect. I've managed to get that b1 skip one time. Every other time I usually hit the water In front of the ledge where the second web is or directly on the switch in the room.

Any tips would be great. These two tricks alone should help me pretty well

Thanks!

I figured I'd just post the three major things I need help with to better my time

One more thing why is it that if I buffer b1 skip the web loads but if I do it unbuffered it doesn't?

Guessing that it loads while the game is paused, so doing it buffered gives it the chance to load whereas doing it unbuffered is too quick for it to load.

does anybody know how the second frame for the mido skip works?
i have no idea why it's not working for me but I can't clip behind mido.
everytime I release the target and hold left he clips in front of him or mido pushes him back.....
it seems that i get a different position all the time don't know why...

Hello everybody,
I'm pretty new to doing speedruns myself (even though I am familiar with most routes by now - at least for OoT).

For now I can only run on my gamecube using the OoT/MQ Disk and I had a question coming up when I looked at the settings.
You can choose between holding L to target or to switching it on/off. For most glitches holding it is the easier option or does it depend on taste w/e?

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

#798
It's purely personal preference, although no one to my knowledge has bothered to make a setup for child void warp using switch targetting.

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

#799
Yeah thats what I was thinking to, that some glitches might be a little messy to do with the switching one.

Another question I have is a little more technical:
I just bought a Wii and I want to use it for two things.
First of I want to play a hacked version of Super Smash Bros Melee on it (which lets see you see hitboxes and all kinds of funky crap) and the other one is running OoT on it (Of course Japanese).

Do you know if these two things might cause trouble together? I'm sorry if this sounds stupid but I know very little about the whole "hacking" part.

Is anyone aware of an issue in MST where when you wrong warp from Dodongo's to the training grounds you lose control of Link? Many times I'll get the warp and can't continue because of this. The game isn't frozen or anything you just can't move link anymore and it looks like you're stuck z targeting at the bottom of the stairs with none of the HUD loaded.

I honestly have no idea what can cause this, any idea's?

Edit: Disregard this. After testing some things I found if you have Z-Targeting set to hold when you do this warp you will get stuck like I mentioned. When I put it to switch there was no problem.

It's actually because you didn't savewarp after entering DC I believe. When you WW, it checks your previous (entrance-based) cutscene to decide what to do, and often it will trap you in an infinite cutscene. If you save and reset after entering DC, your previous cutscene will always be the title screen, which allows the WW to work.

Thank's for the clarification. Are you supposed to savewarp after the Bolero cutscene skip? I'm pretty sure I just don't save when I die and after respawning I just walk out to Dodongo. Maybe that's what the issue has been.

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

@Nate: The cutscenes that affect wrong warp aren't all entrance based, it's just that the vast majority of the usable cutscene pointers are cutscenes that play immediately on entering an area (either from loading a cutscene setup, or on-entrance cutscenes).

@Nynyamo: I think the route is to return to DC after Bolero, save/reset. That will set the cutscene pointer to where it needs to be.

lmfao (that phrasing Kappa)

But to answer your question seriously, its just a few battles with standard enemies which are easy, and then Ganondorf which can be easy or slightly hard depending on what you do.

I lol'd.

Anyways I was reading the wiki and found a page on a "Low%" MST route. (http://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/oot/routes/low-medallions-stones-trials)

Except for it being really convoluted and difficult why don't people ever use this route in runs? It seems like it would be faster to do it this way.

Re: OoT / MQ - Question & Answer / Trick Help Thread

Low% MST is MST while getting the fewest items possible. It takes about 3.5 hours if done well, so it's not faster than regular MST if that's what you meant by "runs".

Somehow fewer items got translated to faster for me. My bad. Thank's for the answer though.

hey,
I'm having a problem with the current swordless mido skip (doing Bloobiebla's 2nd frame setup on VC). Actually i can pull it off pretty often but sometimes it just does not work because my position or angle when i do the 2nd jumpslash is slightly different. Does it matter when i pull out the stick and when i release top/right after i clipped and when i press z to target? I also pause buffered every single input, but my position was still different when i buffered the same inputs again.
This is so frustrating ...

Hey, I was wondering what controllers most are using? I'm using a pretty lose gc controller on vc and I've been finding it increasingly difficult to the ess position. Would an adapter+n64 be best or something along those lines?
